I'm not 100% but from what I understand contracts are paid up until the end of the regular season in the NHL so I'll assume it's the same for the AHL. Teams didn't use to get paid for the playoffs but in the last CBA the players negotiated a playoff bonus. Teams that lose in the first round get $250.000 to disperse among their (25)players. So basically he would have to play regular season games in either the NHL or AHL to be paid and if he plays playoff games he would be part of the pool.

Here’s a breakdown of the NHL’s playoff bonus pool for this season:

President’s Trophy winner — $500,000

First round losers — $2 million ($250,000 each to eight teams)

Second round losers — $2 million ($500,000 each to four teams)

Third round losers — $2.5 million ($1.25-million each to two teams)

Stanley Cup finalist — $2.25 million

Stanley Cup champion — $3.75 million
