Geez Beast:  There are  very few good quiet coaches?  Seriously?  You must be tired commuting from this forum from the 1950s?  It's time to give the "yell at players to get them to perform" rant a rest or at least audit a course at McArthur College to see how teachers motivate young people today.  You scream at kids/players today and they'll tell you to f-off or their agents will get involved by demanding a trade.  I am all for being very firm with players, particularly when they under perform,  but screaming at them no longer works.  Scotty Bowman didn't yell.  He played mind games.  Was there a more composed coach than Al Arbour?  Players loved Don Cherry because he had their back.

Ken Hitchcock had to reinvent his coaching style.  If you need evidence go to the article that was posted on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch website (stldoday.com/sports/blues) this week about his coaching style.  In his last few stints, Mike Keenan mellowed.  Calling out Gretzky in the St. Louis playoff series against Detroit was a reason that 99 left St. Louis.

Punch Imlach was a successful tyrant, yet he was unsuccessful in his 2nd tour of duty with the Leafs because the culture of the sport (and lockeroom) was changing. Bruce Bourdeau, Todd McLellan, Dave Tippett, Mike Yeo, Barry Trotz are all coaches who get their points across without calling their players out in public which includes screaming at them on the bench.  You want examples from other sports?  Cito Gaston!  Bruce Bochy!  Joe Girardi!  Wally Buono!  Joe Torre!

To reiterate, these are all quiet coaches!!!!!!!

This is not to say that I am not baffled by the start to this season.  Was this team not picked to finish first in the East by Sun Media?  I did have to chuckle a couple of weeks ago.  Kelly Hrudey was interviewed on Toronto radio and the conversation shifted to captains/leaders.  Hrudey had played on teams where Gretzky and Denis Potvin were captains.  Do you know who he said his best captain was?  Todd Gill when they both played for the Sharks.  Hmmmmmm!

FYI - in the toolbar atop where you compose your post, there's a spell check button?  Who new?

We have heard this whine before from "friends" of players. I find it interesting that you know what is going on and whether a scout or such lied to Giolmour. All players if a team is under perfo ring deserve to get a kic, until they prove that they are buyinbg the system and playing it every bight. Gilmour would hacve been aq fool to say that he wanted to get away from a coach that yellsw at players. THERE ARE VERY FEW GOOD QUIET COACHES.

As you are new to the board and I assume new to Fronts hockey you need to read the istory. PLAYERS HAVE BEEN WHINING ABOUT COCHING FOR EVER. Is it justified yeah when Giilmour was a part tie coach.

Please tell your friends to either suck it up or ask for a trade.

It would be complete stupidity to fire a coach that is doing what is needed with this team and playing a defense first style that seems to be working.
