It is the simple fact that McFarland is a new coach who is trying to put his system in place, and if you ever played at a high level you will now that a player will dismiss a new coaches system if they are losing. McFarland can't have a rookie D making mistakes during the teams learning process. Also to quite honest, the ice that he is getting O'Grady has struggled with foot speed, making passes and having a basic vision on the backend to make plays...lots of icings coming off of his stick during limited minutes. Aside from major exceptions, it is very difficult for a 15 year old D man to step into the O and be successful. McFarland seems very content in letting O'Grady adjust slowly, probably because he has 6 very capable D ahead of him in the depth chart. His time will come, dues must be payed in this league.
